Light

—after Rupi Kaur

By Akanbi Shedrack

You took the sun with you when you left

Every other day became a mystery book

Each page cursed with the fear of living in death

Each page cursed with an image of a lost dream

Each page cursed with a dot inside brackets—

The dot wears my face

The brackets are the colours of my room’s walls

But on the nights when my window

         Take pictures of the moon

I know your face is the bright side of it

I know I’m not alone

Editor’s Note: The poem’s first line is an allusion and was originally written by Rupi Kaur.
